Abstract : Among the different types of miraculous conceptions found in mythology, one in particular is particularly common all over the world: that of the conception following an ingestion. A woman, more rarely a man, swallows something and conceives a child from it. What type of character is thus created? Who are his parents? What object is swallowed? A first attempt at typology is proposed here for Eurasia.

Résumé : Parmi les différents types de conceptions miraculeuses que l’on rencontre en mythologie, un en particulier est particulièrement fréquent partout dans le monde : celui de la conception suite à une ingestion. Une femme, plus rarement un homme, avale quelque chose et en conçoit un enfant. Quel type de personnage est ainsi créé ? Qui sont ses parents ? Quel objet est avalé ? Un premier essai de typologie est ici proposé pour l’Eurasie.

Des similitudes entre le mythe argien de Phorôneus et la Saga des Gotlandais

Abstract : The first lines of the Guta Saga and the Argive myth of Phoroneus seem related by a common Indo-European origin. In both traditions, a region is subjected to a flood and the withdrawal of the waters ; a first man, named Ϸjelvar, equipped with the fire and bound to a warlike divinity settles there, and stops the flood. His descendants share the region between them. What should be history in the saga, seems of short duration; on the contrary, in the Argive myth there is often a long series of generations; the saga says a man came from somewhere else in the Gotland isle; the Argive myth claims the first man was a native. This man totally differs from Prometheus some compare with him. Phoroneus and Ϸjelvar may be somewhat compared with the Indian legendary king Māthava.

Résumé : Les premières lignes de la Saga des Gotlandais et le mythe argien de Phorôneus auraient une origine indo-européenne commune. Dans les deux traditions, suédoise et grecque, un territoire subit une inondation et un retrait des eaux ; s’y installe un premier homme possesseur du feu et lié à une divinité guerrière, Ϸjelvar. Cet homme met fin à l’inondation. Ses descendants se partagent le territoire. Ce qui serait histoire pour la saga, s’étend sur une courte durée, au contraire du mythe argien qui très souvent envisage une longue série de générations ; pour la saga, c’est un homme venu d’ailleurs qui prend possession de l’ile de Gotland, tandis que le mythe argien privilégie l’autochtonie pour le premier homme vivant en Argolide. Celui-ci diffère totalement de Prométhée dont le rapprochent d’aucuns. Phorôneus et Ϸjelvar peuvent quelque peu être comparés à Māthava de la légende indienne.
