Formulation et trifonctionnalité du Trisagion médiéval

Abstract : The relationship between the Christian churches that emerged from the Council of Nicaea and the Indo-European world is little studied. The case of the Trisagion is telling. A new formulation appeared during the Council of Chalcedon. This new formulation, superimposed on the pre-existing Hebrew model, spread rapidly throughout the Christian sphere and remains in use to this day. This solemn proclamation, based on a tersanctus, could reflect a trifunctional character of Indo-European origin. The author proposes a new interpretation that justifies this reformulation while situating it within Christian theological innovations, particularly the concept of divine mercy.

Résumé : Le rapport des églises chrétiennes nées du concile de Nicée avec le monde indo-européen est peu étudié. Le cas du Trisagion est parlant. Au modèle hébraïque préexistant apparaît une nouvelle formulation durant le Concile de Chalcédoine qui se diffusa rapidement dans la sphère chrétienne et reste à ce jour toujours usitée. Cette invocation construite sur un tersanctus pourrait reprendre un caractère trifonctionnel de nature indo-européenne. L’auteur propose une nouvelle lecture justifiant cette reformulation tout en l’inscrivant dans les innovations théologiques chrétiennes, en particulier le cas de la miséricorde divine.
